Huntsville is Helping to Get Passengers Back in the Sky
Huntsville International Airport (HSV) is ready to get passengers back to the sky. The top priority for the airport is keeping employees, tenants, and passengers safe while restoring confidence in traveling amidst the pandemic.
From the onset of COVID-19, HSV has monitored updates from the Centers for Disease Control as well as local health officials to ensure that the organization was adhering to all of the recommended cleaning protocols and procedures. Upon a comprehensive and thorough review, HSV was able to determine that processes and chemicals used in cleaning prior to the pandemic were already within the recommended materials list that would eliminate the transference of COVID-19. To further protect the airport’s employees, tenants, and passengers the following additional initiatives were enacted:
HSV scheduled Dr. Karen Landers with the Alabama Department of Public Health to present about COVID-19 at the airport in March.
Separate and Sanitize floor stickers are in place to indicate a CDC safe distance. These are at airline ticket counters, car rental counters, baggage claim, TSA, airline gates, and jet bridges.
Guest seating areas have been adjusted down to singular rows in order for CDC safe seating to be followed.
Enhanced Cleaning and Disinfecting includes increased cleaning schedules and implementation of Electrostatic Spray Sanitizer for a deeper clean. This is in addition to new procedures in place by each airline.
Touchless Hand Sanitizing Stations are available throughout the facility.
Acrylic sneeze guards are installed at all ticket counters, car rental counters, airline gates to add an extra layer of protection.
Signage, displaying CDC social distancing, CDC safe seating, and the required mask policy is throughout the facility.
HSV had a Mask Policy prior to state and county ordinances that strongly urged all individuals in the facility to wear a face covering. The policy was changed to require masks once the county and state put ordinances in place.
HSV provides complimentary masks and hand sanitizer to customers. The airport proactively ordered promotional hand sanitizer at the onset of the pandemic and has been dispersing it to passengers.
Throughout the pandemic HSV has provided daily airport and airline updates concerning COVID-19 by utilizing the airport’s e-newsletters, social media sites, website, and via on-airport static and electronic signage.
HSV believes that it is important to inform and update travelers about policies and procedures to ensure that they feel safe. The airport has done this in partnership with ACI-NA by utilizing the Ready for Every Journey campaign hashtag “#readyforeveryjourney” on many of our social media posts. HSV also encourages travel via our own Grand Adventure campaign that reminds customers that even if they aren’t ready to travel now they can find some joy by following our advice to go ahead and: “Plan Your Next Grand Adventure”.
