Hamilton International Airport ‘Hammers’ Away at Restoring Traveller Confidence with Additional Health and Safety Measures
With travel restrictions in place and the demand for passenger travel significantly reduced, COVID-19 has severely impacted the global aviation ecosystem with prolonged and widespread effects on travel and tourism. To restore traveller confidence and protect travellers, business partners and employees, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport has been supporting public health practices with new and enhanced measures for the Airport including:
Mandatory Face Coverings
All Airport employees, travellers and visitors are always required to wear a face covering or mask inside the terminal building. Some exemptions may apply. Cleaning and Sanitation Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in high-touch areas throughout the terminal. Additional hand sanitizer stations have also been deployed throughout all public areas of the Airport.
Anti-Microbial Shield
High-traffic areas and surfaces of the terminal have been treated with an anti-microbial shield that kills 99% of germs and remains active to control and prevent the growth of microorganisms.
Physical Distancing Guidance
Ground markings, signage and regular announcements can be seen and heard throughout the terminal building to give guidance on maintaining 2 metres or 6 feet of distance from others where possible.
Acrylic Protective Barriers
Acrylic protective barriers have been installed in key high-traffic areas of the terminal including the check-in counters, concessions counters and boarding gates to further protect travellers and Airport employees.
Restricted Terminal Access
Access to the terminal building is restricted to travellers and employees on duty (including business partners) to further promote physical distancing. Additionally, the terminal can only be accessed through the main ‘Departures’ entrance.
Buy Before You Fly
As in-flight food and beverage services are limited or unavailable in some cases as part of the airlines’ continued efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Hamilton International developed a campaign to encourage travellers to “Buy Before You Fly” promoting the Airport’s on-site food and beverage vendors for Grab N Go products.
Increased Communications
In addition to the increased signage and voice announcements that can be seen and heard throughout the inside of the terminal building, Hamilton International has expanded its efforts to connect and communicate with travellers and the general public before they arrive. Now more than ever, travellers are seeking regular and reliable communication from airports and airlines to feel safe and confident from departure to arrival. Hamilton International continues to use its website (www.flyhamilton.ca) and social media channels to share information including the health and safety measures in place, important government updates and travel tips to further address the “new normal” of travelling through airports for the foreseeable future.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve and travellers return to the skies, Hamilton International Airport remains committed to being Ready for Every Journey by prioritizing the health and safety of all travellers, business partners and employees. The Airport will continue working alongside its partners to serve the local community and ensure that people and essential goods can get to where they need to go with confidence.
